New trailer for 'Avengers: Endgame' previews the end of an era

Well, folks. This is it.

After the climatic snap of Thanos (Josh Brolin) in the final moments of Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel still had a few pieces to put in place before Joe and Anthony Russo could finish up their epic "conclusion" to one of the biggest franchises of all time. But with Ant-Man and the Wasp and Captain Marvel behind us, there's nothing left for Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige to say- we are in the endgame now, for real this time. And even though six long weeks stand between Marvel fans and the end of Phase 3, excitement is already at a fever pitch.

This morning, Marvel decided to give us one last tease of the final chapter- watch the full trailer for Avengers: Endgame below!

As the culmination of 22 movies and several different individual franchises, Avengers: Endgame is arguably the most anticipated movie in recent history (only Star Wars: The Force Awakens came close to these levels of feverish hype). With a built-in audience of millions around the globe, Marvel and Disney's marketing wizards really don't need to do much beyond reminding people of two things: it comes out April 26 and it'll finish the Thanos saga with a bang. There's probably about 45 seconds of new footage on display here, interspersed with black-and-white memories of tragic events of the past and a few new glimpses of things we've already seen in previous trailers. If Endgame shapes up like many Marvel experts think it will, this melding of past and present certainly makes sense.

I'm undoubtedly a fan of what Marvel has done over the last decade (I was 9 years old when Jon Favreau's Iron Man came out), but truth be told, I'm not quite as obsessed as many internet sleuths. So instead of offering you my analysis of what I think is actually happening in this trailer, I'll just admit that I don't really have a clue either. Time travel confirmed? Are we going into the future? Who are the new characters? I dunno. We'll all find out together eventually!

Instead, here are a few random thoughts I had while watching this trailer a billion times over the last few hours:

-Wow, Iron Man and Captain America are really gonna die, huh? The tears will be real.
-Still surprised there's no Thanos here. He's barely on the poster, too. I get that this one isn't his movie, but he's still the biggest threat!
-I love how it's genuinely possible that any of these heroes could die, with the likely exception of Captain Marvel. Nobody is safe, nobody is off limits.
-Iron Man's back on Earth! I really wanted a shot of him and Cap together, but it's probably smart for them to save that for the movie.

In conclusion, I can't wait. And neither can you. And neither can the whole world. So what are we doing here, really?

Avengers: Endgame opens on April 26, though it's really April 25 at 7 PM. We'll all be there, ready to see how it shakes out. The blockbuster event of the year isn't far away...
