'Suspiria' trailer: Take a new look at Luca Guadagnino's epic re-imagining of a horror classic

If you're going to remake a beloved classic of the horror genre, it helps to be a brilliant auteur who just made one of the finest cinematic romances of the 21st century.

Fans of Dario Argento's Suspiria, a supernatural masterpiece that remains a hallmark of horror style and form, have every reason to be skeptical about a remake. Even though the film isn't as widely known as other horror classics, it's still immensely popular to this day. But with Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino behind the camera, the anticipation for Suspiria has shifted from indifference to intrigue. The filmmaker has emphasized that his version won't function as a straight remake, and with an extended running time (152 minutes) that far surpasses the original's length (97 minutes), it's clear that Guadagnino is shaking things up. After the teaser trailer took the Internet by storm in June, Amazon Studios is back with a full look at this project. Watch it below!

Set to a chilling musical score by Radiohead's Thom Yorke, that initial teaser was just about perfect in every way. In just one minute, the marketing team at Amazon sold the icy atmosphere and distinct mood of this remake, delivering a number of iconic images to get us excited. It was going to be difficult, maybe ever impossible for a conventional trailer to top such an electric teaser.

This full look at Suspiria comes close, and the film remains one of my most anticipated for the rest of the year. As a fan of Argento's bloody, heavily stylized method of composition, I'm still impressed by what Guadagnino has conjured up here- something sinister, stark, and simple. This looks like a film ripped straight out of another era, and the minimalism makes it even more frightening. But Guadagnino is a masterful director, and I never had any doubts that his take on Suspiria would be meticulous and precise.

At this point, I'm more curious about the reception in the critical community. The movie will premiere at the Venice Film Festival, but it won't be heading to Toronto or New York (and it could be skip Telluride too). Will it end up being one of the most divisive films of the year? Comparisons have already been drawn between this film and Darren Aronofsky's mother!- will this new take on Suspiria suffer the same fate?

Well, we'll find out in just a few short days. Also- Lutz Ebersdorf is definitely Tilda Swinton under heavy makeup. No question about it now.

Suspiria will open in New York and L.A. on October 26 before expanding wide on November 2.
