Timothy Olyphant in talks for lead role in Quentin Tarantino's 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood'

As Quentin Tarantino prepares to shoot Once Upon a Time in Hollywood over the summer, the cast for his ninth feature film is shaping up nicely. While we still know very about his late 1960s period piece/Manson Murders drama, the growing ensemble is more than enough to get any cinephile excited. After months of talk over who would nab the two lead roles, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, two of the biggest movie stars on the planet and Tarantino veterans from Django Unchained and Inglourious Basterds, ended up signing on to play actor Rick Dalton and stuntman Cliff Booth, respectively. Earlier this week, it was reported that more Tarantino favorites have joined his latest venture, as Kurt Russell, Michael Madsen, and Tim Roth will play small roles in the film. But there will be some new blood this time around as well. In that same report, we learned that the iconic Burt Reynolds has signed on to play George Spahn, the elderly neighbor of Charles Manson. And after almost a full year of speculation, it was finally confirmed that Oscar nominee Margot Robbie will play the late Sharon Tate. But if you thought Tarantino was done casting this new project, think again.

Yesterday, Deadline reported that Timothy Olyphant is in negotiations to star in the film. The role is currently unknown, but the Justified star will likely play a major part in what is being described as a "Pulp Fiction-like tapestry." While Olyphant has popped up in a few movies over the years, the actor is best known for his television roles. He was nominated for an Emmy for Justified, and he currently stars with Drew Barrymore on the strange (and very bloody) Netflix comedy Santa Clarita Diet. In terms of film roles, Olyphant most recently appeared in Oliver Stone's Snowden and the ensemble comedy Mother's Day. With zero information on this role in Tarantino's new film, it's a little hard to say much about this news. But Olyphant is a versatile actor, and I think this is another great addition to what is becoming a truly stunning ensemble.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will debut on August 9, 2019.
