Jordan Peele announces 'Us' for March 2019; Lupita Nyong'o, Elisabeth Moss, and Winston Duke in talks to star

How can Jordan Peele follow up Get Out?

Going into 2019, this will likely be one of the pressing cinematic questions on everyone's mind. Get Out was undeniably the most unexpected and spectacular hit of 2017, grossing $176 million domestically and winning an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. But with spectacular success comes high expectations, and there's no doubt that Peele's next film is one of the most hotly anticipated upcoming movies at the moment. Will Peele's next "social thriller" be able to live up to a movie that became a part of the cultural conversation in a profound and important way? I wouldn't put it past him. With the film's release date just over 10 months away, Peele has finally given us a tease for his next project. Check out the teaser poster for Us below!

While some of us were aware that Peele's next movie was set for March 2019, last night's teaser solidified that date. Peele released the above teaser on his Twitter page and instantly took the internet by storm, generating thousands of retweets and plenty of online chatter. The title of Peele's next film is Us, and while the poster gives us nothing about the plot or the exact nature of his second directorial outing, the trades added some much needed information. Variety's Justin Kroll reported that Lupita Nyong'o and Elisabeth Moss are likely to star in the film, with both actresses in different stages of negotiations. Nyong'o, best known for winning an Oscar for 12 Years a Slave, is in talks for one of the lead roles, while The Handmaid's Tale and Mad Men's Moss is Peele's choice for another lead. The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit added that Black Panther's Winston Duke is also in talks to star. THR also detailed a slightly better picture of what the film could actually be about, noting that Us will center on two couples, one white and one black.

Universal doesn't need to do much to sell audiences on Peele's next outing. While Get Out required a dynamite (and very spoiler-y) trailer to get people into the theater, Us can rely on Peele's name and the sense of mystery alone. His ferocious and insightful debut just gets better and better each time I watch it, and I can't wait to see what he has in store for us next.

Us opens in theaters on March 15, 2019.
