Full trailer for 'Deadpool 2' introduces the X-Force and reveals the sequel's plot

At one point, May 2018 was shaping up to be one of the biggest months of all-time for event movies. Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2, and Solo: A Star Wars Story in quick succession of one another? Sign me up, please. Now that Infinity War has shifted to the final weekend of April, things are looking a little more calm on the blockbuster front. But we're still looking at three of the year's biggest movies opening within the same five-week frame, and the online film community will have plenty to talk about as the month progresses. While Infinity War is serving as the penultimate chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Deadpool 2 (I think we're officially calling it that now?) has the potential to kickstart a different kind of universe. We don't know exactly what will come of Fox's R-rated Marvel outings after the massive Disney deal, but the Mouse House has never been one to turn down good money. With more potential projects for these characters on the horizon, Deadpool 2 could represent a bold step for the franchise after the humble origins of its 2016 predecessor. Keeping that in mind, check out the first full trailer for Deadpool 2!

Fox has been surprisingly coy when it comes to the plot of Deadpool 2, but this trailer finally gives us a good idea of what this highly-anticipated sequel will actually be about. As Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) settles down after finally getting his revenge, Josh Brolin's time-traveling Cable arrives to mess things up. Cable is here for a young mutant, played by Hunt for the Wilderpeople's Julian Dennison, and it looks like Deadpool will have to assemble the X-Force in order to stop him- at least until Cable joins the new mutant squad, which we all know will happen at some point. Drew Goddard's X-Force is next on the docket for Fox's new R-rated X-Men series, so it makes sense that they're introducing that concept for the Merc with a Mouth's second solo outing.

Even though the two previously released, highly unconventional teasers were plenty of fun, this is the best look yet at Deadpool 2 by far. The trailer promises more of the same, but with a slightly different flavor. While this clip is peppered with the self-aware humor, salty language, and extreme violence that we've come to expect from this character, the aesthetic feels new, mostly thanks to the direction of Atomic Blonde and John Wick filmmaker David Leitch. Blonde may have had some issues in the story department, but Leitch can direct an action sequence like it's nobody's business. I'm excited to see what he does with this movie, and I'm thrilled that we're getting more adventures with this irreverent anti-hero. Don't mess with a good thing, Bob Iger.

Deadpool 2 opens on May 18.
