Epic new trailer for 'Avengers: Infinity War' previews the finale of the Marvel Cinematic Universe

After Disney and Marvel made the surprise move of shifting Avengers: Infinity War from May 4 to April 27, re-shaping the entire movie calendar in the process, it's finally starting to dawn on everyone that we're about to witness the beginning of the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A decade after Tony Stark learned that he was part of a bigger universe, six years after the Avengers assembled for the very first time, and two years after politics tore them apart, Earth's mightiest heroes will have to reunite once more to face the biggest baddie of them all. Josh Brolin's Thanos was first teased in the end credits of 2012's The Avengers, and the threat of the Mad Titan has been looming large ever since. With the coveted Infinity Stones playing a key role in several Marvel movies, the epic Infinity War has been Kevin Feige's endgame for years now. Originally a two-part conclusion, Infinity War will now be the penultimate chapter in the current iteration of the franchise, which will come to an end with next year's still-untitled Avengers 4. The Marvel Cinematic Universe may continue, but it will never be the same again. With the April 27 release date looming, Marvel just released the second and presumably final full trailer for Infinity War. Check it out below!

The Infinity War trailers have a very simple task. They don't need to introduce us to the characters or even explain the plot in any significant fashion. The marketing folks at Marvel just need to get us more excited for a movie we already can't wait to see. That's precisely what this latest trailer does, and wow, this thing just looks terrific. With so many characters in Infinity War, we can't possibly see them all in action here. However, the trailer does an excellent job of conveying the massive emotional stakes of this third chapter, as well as the sheer scale of the face-off between Thanos and the Avengers. Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther and the people of Wakanda prepare for battle, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) protect New York, and Thanos is determined to burn it all to the ground. Chris Pratt's Star-Lord and Tom Holland's Spider-Man are still bringing the humor, while this looks to be another weighty, brutal outing for both Stark and Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). Infinity War seems like the kind of spectacular blockbuster I dreamed of as a kid, and even though I have my concerns about the sheer number of characters in this epic adventure, I'm confident that Joe and Anthony Russo will be able to pull it off. We know this will be the final chapter for many of these beloved heroes (thanks to either a tragic character death or a contract expiration), and it looks like the Russos will be sending them off in style.

Plus, that final shot of Captain America holding off Thanos with his bare hands is maybe the most incredible thing I've seen in a superhero trailer in ages. I can't wait.

Avengers: Infinity War will arrive on April 27 in theaters around the globe.
