2018 Oscars Live Blog

Well, the red carpet festivities have just wrapped up, which means the start of the 90th annual Academy Awards is just around the corner. Let's get started with this year's live blog!

-Jimmy Kimmel has things rolling, and he's already taking jabs at last year's Best Picture fiasco.

-"If we can't trust agents.....who can we trust?"

-Kimmel is definitely not avoiding the elephant(s) in the room tonight. Going for it in the monologue.

-Sam Rockwell kicks things off with a win in Best Supporting Actor for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Terrific performance in a terrific movie.

-Lakeith Stanfield runs on stage to scream "GET OUT!!" if anyone's speech runs too long. Brilliant.

-Darkest Hair takes the award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. Not much of a surprise there.

-By the way, timing everything and competing for a jet ski is such a great idea it's remarkable that nobody thought of it before.

-Eva Marie Saint comes on stage to a rousing standing ovation. Gives a wonderful tribute to her husband. She's presenting Best Costume Design.

-Mark Bridges wins Best Costume Design for Phantom Thread. A well-deserved win.

-Worth a note- the ABC Live Stream is lagging slightly. Which means all of my reactions will be a little behind schedule.

-Greta Gerwig and Laura Dern are here to present Best Documentary Feature.

-And Icarus takes Best Documentary! A little bit of a surprise, but feels right considering the Olympics just happened.

-Taraji P. Henson is here to introduce Mary J. Blige, who will perform "Mighty River" from Mudbound, the first of tonight's Best Original Song nominees.

-Next up are the Best Sound categories- I have Dunkirk in both, but lots of different options here.

-Got goosebumps from that Oscar tribute. Incredible.

-Ansel Elgort and Eiza Gonzalez are presenting Best Sound Editing and Mixing. Could Baby Driver take the wins here?

-Richard King and Alex Gibson win Best Sound Editing for Dunkirk.

-Dunkirk also takes home Best Sound Mixing tonight. Not a surprise, but well-deserved wins.

-Lupita Nyong'o and Kumail Nanjiani present the award for Best Production Design to The Shape of Water.

-I know I predicted "This is Me" to win Best Original Song, but I really hope "Remember Me" takes the cake. That Coco medley ruled.

-I'm with Kimmel- everyone should take this jet ski offer a little more seriously.

-Rita Moreno is presenting Best Foreign Language Film. In the same dress she wore when she won for West Side Story!

-A Fantastic Woman wins Best Foreign Language Film. Congrats to Sebastian Lelio!

-Mahershala Ali is presenting the award for Best Supporting Actress. I have a crazy upset here.

-Aaaaaaaaand the upset didn't pay off. Allison Janney wins Best Supporting Actress for I, Tonya. The acting categories are going as expected.

-They've brought out a young version of Kimmel to introduce the cast of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. A nice little bit. And hey, Mark Hamill is here!

-Dear Basketball wins Best Animated Short film. Kobe Bryant has his Oscar.

-BB-8 wants to get the next award ready- Best Animated Feature is up next.

-Coco!!!! Beautiful speech from the entire Pixar team.

-Daniela Vega is introducing Sufjan Stevens- he'll be performing "Mystery of Love."

-I'll be happy if "Mystery of Love" wins too. Great song from an underrated masterpiece.

-Gina Rodriguez and Tom Holland are your next presenters for the evening.

-Blade Runner! 2049 wins Best Visual Effects. Sorry to the Apes franchise.

-Alright, alright, alright. Matthew McConaughey is here to present Best Film Editing. Could the Baby Driver team pull the upset?

-Nope, it goes to Lee Smith for Dunkirk! Extraordinary movie, and a large part of that is due to the editing.

-Kimmel and company are going to the Grauman's Chinese Theater to surprise some movie-goers. Should be kinda weird.

-So this got insane? Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph are here to present the next award.

-Heaven is a Traffic Jam on the 405 wins Best Documentary Short Subject. I swear, I will never get these categories right.

-Next up is Best Live-Action Short Film. Haddish and Rudolph are killing it.

-Ha! I got one right. The Silent Child wins Best Live-Action Short Film.

-Dave Chappelle is here to introduce "Stand Up for Something," the next Best Original Song nominee.

-Ashley Judd, Annabella Sciorra, and Salma Hayek Pinault are our next presenters. Three of the most influential women of the year.

-Kumail Nanjiani is one of my favorite people. That is all.

-Chadwick Boseman and Margot Robbie are presenting Best Adapted Screenplay.

-James Ivory wins Best Adapted Screenplay for Call Me By Your Name. A wonderful movie, and a well-deserved win.

-Nicole Kidman is up to present Best Original Screenplay- one of the most competitive categories of the evening.

-Jordan Peele wins Best Original Screenplay for Get Out- yes!!!!

-Sandra Bullock is presenting Best Cinematography after a tribute to the military.

-Whoops, almost forgot about this. Got so excited because Roger Deakins is finally an Oscar winner! Blade Runner 2049 wins Best Cinematography.

-Christopher Walken is presenting Best Original Score- please be Jonny Greenwood!

-Alexandre Desplat wins Best Original Score for The Shape of Water. 2nd win of the night for Guillermo del Toro's film.

-Next up- Best Original Song, presented by Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

-Coco! So glad to be wrong about that one.

-Guillermo del Toro is your Best Director winner. Only three awards left!

-Jane Fonda and Helen Mirren will be presenting Best Actor to Gary Oldman.

-No surprise there- Gary Oldman wins for Darkest Hour.

-That was a great speech by Oldman. Just two awards left in the evening.

-Best Actress is next- Jodie Foster and Jennifer Lawrence are presenting this one.

-Frances McDormand wins! And she's killing the speech.

-And with that, awards season has ended. The Shape of Water wins Best Picture.
