'It: Chapter Two' officially set to debut on September 6, 2019

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Everybody knew that IT was going to be a big hit when it premiered in theaters earlier this month, but few knew just how high this thing would soar. The Andy Muschietti-directed horror film broke box office records, debuting with an opening weekend of $123.4 million and climbing to its current total of $266 million. And taking its slight 50% weekend drops into consideration, it's not out of the question for IT to finish with upwards of $325 million. Not bad for an R-rated movie that cost only $35 million to make. Warner Bros. and New Line genuinely hit the jackpot here, creating a horror sensation the kind of horror sensation we haven't seen in over a generation. And lucky for them, there's more to come. IT only served as an adaptation for half of Stephen King's epic novel (my copy runs over 1,000 pages in length), which means that there's still another half to bring to the big screen. Chapter Two has seemed like an inevitability since the trailer broke records, and today, we received official word that this thing is moving forward quickly.

Per The Hollywood Reporter and numerous additional sources, Warner Bros. and New Line have officially set IT: Chapter Two for a September 6, 2019 release date. This year's film found great success in the early fall, capitalizing on one of the weakest summers for true event movies in recent history. So it was really a given that the two studios would want to replicate this formula, and today's news only serves as confirmation of what we already suspected. THR's Pamela McClintock also reveals that co-screenwriter Gary Dauberman is set to write the sequel, while the article reports that Muschietti and a variety of other creative collaborators are set to return as well. The big issue now will most certainly be casting, as the adult versions of the Losers Club are going to be highly desired roles in Hollywood. There have already been rumblings of Jessica Chastain playing Beverly Marsh, and I have a feeling that we'll hear even more famous names in the near future.

But for now, it's good to know that this movie is coming sooner rather than later. Look for more details here soon, and go see IT if you haven't already.
