'The Nice Guys' breakout star Angourie Rice joins 'Spider-Man: Homecoming'

The Nice Guys is one of the best films of the year so far, and unfortunately, it's one that not many people saw. The film grossed a meager $35.6 million in the US, with no overseas box office reported as of yet. For such a funny and highly-acclaimed film, that's really a shame. One of the biggest breakout stars of the Shane Black buddy comedy was Angourie Rice, the young daughter of Ryan Gosling's Holland March. Rice held her own alongside acting titans like Gosling and Russell Crowe, stealing nearly every scene in the movie. And while everyday audiences might not have seen The Nice Guys, Hollywood casting agents did, and they certainly took notice of the young star. Rice will certainly get her fair share of major roles in the coming years, but to start things off, she's headed to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

On Wednesday, The Hollywood Reporter exclusively revealed that Rice has joined the cast of Jon Watts' Spider-Man: Homecoming, the Tom Holland-starred reboot of the classic character. There's no word on who Rice will play, but the project is currently shooting in Atlanta, per THR's report. Homecoming has grown its cast exponentially in recent weeks, added a diverse cast of young actors along with a wide range of villainous character. Rice is ultimately going to emerge as one of 2016's biggest new stars, and because of that, I think she's a great fit in this new universe. With such a late-in-the-game casting move, I have to imagine that Rice's role will be rather small (Gwen Stacy cameo, anybody?), but as Marvel has shown time and time again, everything is part of a bigger plan.

Spider-Man: Homecoming stars Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Martin Starr, Logan Marshall-Green, Kenneth Choi, Hannibal Buress, Donald Glover, Angourie Rice, Bokeem Woodbine, Abraham Attah, Michael Mando, and Tony Revolori, and will hit theaters on July 7, 2017.
