Ryan Gosling in talks to star with Harrison Ford in new 'Blade Runner' film

Harrison Ford is one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood history, and if you don't include Star Wars and Indiana Jones, his most famous role is probably Rick Deckard in Ridley Scott's sci-fi masterpiece Blade Runner. While the film has been released in multiple versions over the years, there was never any talk of sequels or spin-offs until recently when Scott announced that he would be tackling the project. Unfortunately, Scott is nearing 80 years old and he already had a multitude of projects lined up when the new Blade Runner flick was beginning pre-production. Therefore, he handed over the reigns on the project to talented director Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Enemy) and now the production is moving forward at Warner Bros. Villeneuve has Sicario out later this year, but afterwards, he should be able to start production on the film. And with all of that set, the first casting piece is falling into place for the film.

According to Variety and a press release from Alcon Entertainment, Ryan Gosling is in talks to star in the upcoming Blade Runner project with Harrison Ford. There is no word on who Gosling will be playing or how close he is to closing a deal, but I think that this is very exciting news. Say what you will about Gosling as an actor, but he's truly perfect for Blade Runner. He has the steely cool confidence and calm demeanor needed and his 2011 crime drama Drive had a lot in common with the original Blade Runner. If this comes to fruition, I'll be very happy. After taking a look at Gosling and Villeneuve's upcoming schedules, I would estimate that this film will hit theaters in 2017 or 2018. While I'm not sure where they'll be able to go with another Blade Runner film, I'm intrigued by what they've put together so far.
