Dwayne Johnson to star in Disney's 'Moana'

Disney has steadily created one of the most impressive animated studios in Hollywood, surpassing even Pixar. Since 2010, Disney has churned out hit after hit, with Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, Big Hero 6 and Frozen raking in tons of cash last year. Frozen 2 is coming down the pipeline and Disney has a few other projects coming soon, but their next big project is Moana. The film will be set at sea and tell the story of Moana, a Polynesian princess who goes an epic journey. I'm very excited to see this film and I think that it could be another critical and financial success. The first piece of the casting puzzle for the film fell into place earlier and it's a pretty exciting announcement.

Dwayne Johnson, the "Franchise Viagra" of Hollywood, has now signed on to star in Moana as Maui, a powerful demi-god who aids the hero on her journey. There's not much more known about this film beyond that, but I am incredibly interested. I doubt that Moana will be as successful as Frozen, but I will never underestimate the power of Disney. Plus, it looks like a visually engaging film and the company will be able to tie in their own Polynesian Resort with the film. Disney Animation's next film is Zootopia, which will hit theaters in March 2016, while Moana will hit theaters on November 23, 2016.
