Bill Murray joins Jon Favreau's 'Jungle Book'

I haven't reported on the new Disney re-imagining of The Jungle Book yet, but this latest bit of casting has piqued my interest quite a bit. The Jungle Book is a live-action/animation hybrid that will be directed by Jon Favreau (Chef, Iron Man). The film stars Christopher Walken, Ben Kingsley, Lupita Nyong'o, Idris Elba, Giancarlo Esposito, Scarlett Johannson and Neel Sethi as Mowgli. That's a stellar cast and with a talented director like Favreau at the helm, this should be good. However, the latest addition to the cast makes this a must-see for me. Deadline is reporting that Bill Murray is joining the cast of the film. He will play Baloo, the bear who befriends Mowgli. That is simply perfect.

For whatever reason, The Jungle Book is a hot commodity in Hollywood right now. Warner Bros. just announced that Jungle Book: Origins will hit theaters in October 2016 with motion capture wiz Andy Serkis at the helm. That's an interesting project as well, but I have to say that I'm more excited for Favreau's adaptation. He has so many talented voice actors involved and they all seem perfect for the roles. And I'm not sure that any actor is more perfect for his chosen role than Bill Murray as Baloo. The screen persona that Murray has created over the years just seems to fit the character of Baloo perfectly and I love the casting choice. The Jungle Book will hit theaters on October 9, 2015.
