One of the coolest things that was revealed at this year's San Diego Comic-Con was the announcement by Legendary Pictures that Skull Island is being developed and will hit theaters on November 4, 2016. According to multiple sources, the studio announced the film by showing a brief teaser at the end of the Legendary panel that depicted an murky, dark island before zooming into King Kong shouting. Some in the audience were incredibly disappointed, as they were expecting a teaser trailer for Jurassic World. However, most people seemed excited about the prospect of another movie in the King Kong universe. Some even believe that a King Kong vs. Godzilla movie is in the works and that's even more exciting. All in all, Skull Island is a very interesting film and I can't wait to dive in.
Believe it or not, November 2016 is really not that far away and Skull Island is already looking for a director. Attack the Block director Joe Cornish is the front-runner for the job and Universal has already offered him the film, according to Deadline. However, the industry website notes that Cornish has been given many opportunities to direct big studio blockbusters since Attack the Block and has declined many of those chances. We'll probably see soon if Cornish gets the job, but I hope that he does. Edgar Wright and Cornish have worked together many times and that is an exciting possibility. I'm very much looking forward to Skull Island and I hope that Universal and Legendary get talented people to make this film.
