One of the most intriguing projects of the next few years is Brad Bird's science fiction project that is his follow-up to the terrific Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol. Up until today, that film was called 1952 and set to star George Clooney and debut on December 19, 2014. And while the last two things are the same, the project now has a different title: Tommorowland. For those unfamiliar, Tomorrowland is a section of the Walt Disney World and Disneyland theme parks that deals with the future, and alien life. And it seems that the story will revolve around that. According to many sources including Collider and EW, the inspiration for the film was a box found by a Disney executive and given to director Brad Bird and screenwriter Damon Lindelof. The box is said to contain materials for a possible ride or theme park that was going to be made but was scrapped. Previously, this film has been described as a Close Encounters-style film about alien life and human contact.
Now, there are several theories on what this movie could be. Some think that now because it is titled Tomorrowland, it is about the construction of Disneyland and the development of the Imagineers division. Some think that it is a drama about Walt Disney. I tend to lean towards a different solution. One that I created myself. I think that Bird and Lindelof's film will be about a real encounter between George Clooney's character, who I assume will be Walt Disney and alien life. His adventure shows him something and it causes him to create Tomorrowland and a film but the film idea was scrapped. That may sound crazy but I think that it is most definitely plausible. All in all, Tomorrowland is one of my most anticipated for the next few years. Period sci-fi is something that I love and I think that Bird and Lindelof will do a great job.
