Green Lantern is the latest superhero film from Warner Bros. and DC Comics. Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, a test pilot who works for Ferris Air. His partner is Carol Ferris (Blake Lively) who is the daughter of the owner of Ferris Air. Now switch over to another galaxy. The Green Lantern corps' greatest warrior, Abin-Sur (Temeura Morrinson) has been killed by Parallax, a giant monster that feeds off fear. Abin-Sur crashes on Earth and gives his ring and lantern to his successor, Hal. A funny scene follows with Hal trying to speak the oath of the Lanterns. He is then taken to Oa, the Lanterns home planet and trained to be a Green Lantern by Kilowog (Michael Clarke Duncan), Tomar- Re (Geoffrey Rush), and Sinestro (Mark Strong). Those scenes were funny and entertaining.
Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard) is grabbed by Senator Hammond (Tim Robbins), his father, and investigates the body of Abin- Sur with another doctor (Angela Bassett). Unfortunately, Abin-Sur had a piece of Parallax in him. Hector grabs the piece and becomes infected. He turns into an evil villian.
Green Lantern is a decent superhero movie, but not great. Hal fights evil on Earth a few times as Green Lantern, but there seems to be no intrigue as to who he is. There is little action in the film and the climax with Parallax is really bad. Hammond and Parallax set up each other well as villians, unlike Spider Man 3, where there was a ton of bad guys. I had high expectations for Lantern but it did not meet them.
