Jim Jarmusch assembles a stunning cast in first trailer for 'The Dead Don't Die'

Despite being a director whose work I would almost certainly love, my experience with the work of Jim Jarmusch is pretty limited. I managed to see Jarmusch's Gimme Shelter, a documentary about The Stooges, a few years ago, but I've missed out on modern classics like Broken Flowers, Stranger Than Paradise, and Paterson. Nonetheless, I plan to rectify all of that very soon, hopefully before Jarmusch's next film hits theaters. After tackling vampires with Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton in Only Lovers Left Alive, Jarmusch is moving on to the zombie genre with The Dead Don't Die, which has been tapped for a premiere at the Cannes Film Festival before its June 14 release. For his latest film, the director has assembled (or, as the poster says, "disassembled") a genuinely staggering cast, led by Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Chloƫ Sevigny, Tilda Swinton, Danny Glover, Steve Buscemi, Selena Gomez, RZA, Caleb Landry Jones, Tom Waits, Carol Kane, Iggy Pop, Rosie Perez, Austin Butler, and more. With the release date the possible Cannes bow looming, Focus Features released the first trailer this morning- watch it below!

"I'm thinkin' zombies."

Is there anything I can say in response to this trailer that's even worth saying? Jarmusch's latest looks like a gory, twisted, and deeply funny delight, and I am almost irrationally excited to see this thing play out in a few months. As I said on Twitter- put this in my eyeballs ASAP.

The trailer is mostly concerned with selling the combination of an old-fashioned Romero aesthetic, some really dry comedy, and a top-notch cast, but it also gives a good sense for the rapport between Adam Driver and Bill Murray, both prior collaborators of Jarmusch. Though he's arguably most famous for playing Kylo Ren in the Star Wars films, he's already proved his comedic bona fides with Logan Lucky and (to a lesser extent) BlacKkKlansman, so he seems like a perfect fit for what could be the best zom-com since Shaun of the Dead. Also, this trailer provides a brief glimpse of Tilda Swinton playing a character who appears to be a Scottish woman obsessed with samurai gear. I mean, honestly, why the hell would anyone not want to see this movie?

The Dead Don't Die will hit theaters nationwide on June 14. If you're not all in on this thing based on what we've seen so far, I have some serious questions for you.
