Watch: Much-anticipated first teaser for Marvel's 'Avengers: Endgame' is finally here

Okay. Deep breaths, everybody.

We are just over seven months removed from the release of Joe and Anthony Russo's Avengers: Infinity War, which forever changed the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the literal snap of Thanos' (Josh Brolin) fingers. Fan favorite characters turned to ash in a matter of seconds, with Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), and every Guardian except Rocket (Bradley Cooper) among the casualties. Instead of teasing how the still-untitled fourth Avengers film would solve this universe-decimating event, the film ended with the Mad Titan sitting on a farm, preparing to rest after completing his mission. Sure, we got a Captain Marvel tease in the credits, but how could this possibly be undone? July's Ant-Man and the Wasp, which saw Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) vanish, did fans no favors. And Marvel has been mum on the fourth installment ever since.

Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) is in the Quantum Realm. Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.) and Nebula (Karen Gillen) are in space. The Avengers are still splintered. Can the universe be saved?

Time to find out. Watch the first trailer for the fourth Avengers film below!

This is very much a teaser, so let's recap what we now know about the final chapter of this iteration of the MCU:

-Tony is floating in space, presumably with Nebula. Food, water, and oxygen are dwindling. He could die any day now.
-The remaining Earthbound Avengers have left Wakanda, opting to sit around Avengers HQ and plot their next move.
-Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) is back! It's safe to assume that his family did not make it through the snap since he's doing mercenary stuff in Japan now.
-Scott Lang and Shuri (Letitia Wright) are feared dead. But Scott is alive- he somehow managed to escape the Quantum Realm.
-Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) have some kind of plan.

That's not a whole lot to go off, and as many online have already indicated, Marvel could very well be lying to us. Still, after several months in the MCU wilderness, getting even the briefest glimpse of footage from this much-anticipated film was enough to make me giddy. Of course, fans have already started theorizing on what this all could mean. Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) is going to save Tony, Scott is the key to everything, and Cap is the most important piece of the entire plan.

But theorizing can wait. Let's just savor the sheer excitement of this teaser, which gives us some semblance of hope that things will end up okay. From the brief scene where Tony communicates with Pepper, it's clear that we're in for an emotional finale, and I can only imagine what the actual film has in store in that department. There's little action here, but the hype is building. The endgame is here, and it's time to get ready.

Marvel's Avengers: Endgame will officially hit theaters on April 26, 2019. It is, without question, the cinematic event of 2019. Here we go....
