Third trailer for 'Venom' reveals full look at Tom Hardy's scary anti-hero

Sight unseen, October is shaping up to be one of the most stellar months for movies in a very long time, showcasing a wonderful mix of horror films and Oscar players. On the genre side of things, Michael Myers will return to haunt Laurie Strode in David Gordon Green's Halloween, an all-star cast joins director Drew Goddard for Bad Times at the El Royale, and Dan Stevens stars in Gareth Evans' hotly-anticipated Apostle. And in terms of Oscar players, Ryan Gosling heads to the moon in Damien Chazelle's First Man, while Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga will light up the screen in A Star is Born.

And then there's Venom.

Sure, the Ruben Fleischer-directed superhero flick is destined to be one of the highest-grossing movies of the month. But will it be any good? If you're still unsure, see if this morning's new trailer does anything to change your mind. Watch it below!

Yeah, I still don't know, guys. I just don't know.

This is certainly a much more exciting and polished trailer, showing off Tom Hardy's anti-hero in all of his symbiotic glory. I feel like any superhero film featuring Hardy, Michelle Williams, and Riz Ahmed will naturally catch my interest, so it's weird to be not all that excited for what Fleischer and company have put together.

First, I'm just not buying Hardy as Serious Reporter Eddie Brock. Maybe it's the New York accent, or maybe it's Hardy's screen persona prior to this film. Either way, the early stuff just isn't working for me. And then there's the Venom voice, which sounds like the Beast from the Disney animated classic, only with a more twisted sense of humor. I'm really not understanding why there's such a prominent comedic angle on display here. It's like the filmmakers make a super dark comic book movie and then decided to throw in Marvel-esque humor for no reason.

Anyways, Venom also looks needlessly edgy. "The World Has Enough Superheroes" is a hell of a gutsy slogan, seemingly promising a subversive and truly cool take on this growing genre. But can the film deliver on that idea? We'll find out on October 5, when Venom hits theaters.
