Rebecca Ferguson in talks to join Ewan McGregor in Mike Flanagan's 'Doctor Sleep'

It seems like we receive new details on a different upcoming Stephen King adaptation every single day, which is something of an inevitability after the runaway success of IT. Andy Muschietti's crowd-pleasing take on the horror maestro's magnum opus grossed $700 million worldwide, one of the biggest R-rated films in history. Horror movies consistently sell tickets, and the studios have finally realized that there's a gold mine in King's decades of work. But in between remakes of classics and adaptations of lesser-known works, one film has managed to stand out in the crowded King field. Doctor Sleep, the King-penned sequel to The Shining, has already signed director Mike Flanagan and star Ewan McGregor, who will play an older version of Danny Torrance. With an early 2020 release date set from Warner Bros., the filmmaker behind Gerald's Game and Ouija: Origin of Evil has found another star to lead this horror epic.

According to Variety, Rebecca Ferguson is in talks to co-star with McGregor in Doctor Sleep. Per the report, Ferguson's role is unknown, though I'm sure readers will be able to piece together who she could possibly be playing.

Ferguson rose to fame in 2015's Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation, where she played the dangerous and enigmatic Ilsa Faust. Since then, the popularity of the Swedish actress has only increased, highlighted by appearances in Florence Foster Jenkins, The Girl on the Train, Life, and much-maligned The Snowman. She co-starred with Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron in smash hit The Greatest Showman, and she'll be back as Ilsa in next month's Mission: Impossible- Fallout.

Without knowing who she's playing, it's kind of impossible to have much of a substantial reaction to the news of her involvement in Doctor Sleep. But Ferguson is a terrific actress, and I'm glad to see her joining another high-profile project like this. McGregor and Ferguson make for a formidable, prestigious duo, seemingly indicating that this return to the world of The Shining will be a major event. I can't wait to hear more.

Doctor Sleep will arrive in theaters on January 24, 2020.
