Bonkers trailer for 'Mandy' highlights Nicolas Cage's acclaimed performance

The buzz surrounding Mandy has been off the charts since Sundance, where it debuted to rave reviews from critics and festival-goers alike. Nicolas Cage delivered an off-the-wall performance earlier this year in Brian Taylor's silly Mom and Dad, but everyone who was lucky enough to see Mandy promised that we hadn't even seen Peak Crazy Cage yet. There was only one question left: when will we get to see it? Even with great notices from those at Sundance, a deranged, acid-laced mind trip of a revenge thriller was never going to be an easy sell. After a Cannes bow and several months of radio silence, general audiences are finally getting their first look at Mandy. Earlier today, RLJE Films released the trailer for the film. It's absolute madness, and you have to watch it. Check it out below!

Until I read the initial reactions for Mandy, I had never heard of director Panos Cosmatos. He has only one other credit to his name- 2010's Beyond the Black Rainbow. But after seeing just this brief taste of what Mandy will offer, I feel like I absolutely need to check out Cosmatos' first film. This looks like not only one of the coolest, craziest movies of the year, but it also seems to be the kind of outrageous nightmare that's right up my alley. If a group of aliens made a movie and shipped it to us, it might look a little something like this. Andrea Riseborough looks terrific, the main villain is appropriately creepy, and as always, Cage is going to be giving it his all. But naturally, it's the visuals by Cosmatos that have me sold. The colors, the intensity, the spooky sense of pervasive darkness- I need to watch this movie as soon as humanly possible.

Mandy will arrive in theaters and on demand on September 14.
