UPDATE: James Marsden and Al Pacino join the spectacular cast of Quentin Tarantino's 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood'

UPDATE: Yes, I have more casting news for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Variety's Justin Kroll reported earlier today that Westworld actor James Marsden has joined the cast of Quentin Tarantino's new film in an unspecified role. Julia Butters has also signed on for an unknown role. The hush-hush nature of Marsden's role has led many to believe that he'll play Charles Manson, the cult leader and serial killer who orchestrated a series of murders in 1969 Hollywood. Wait a second. Didn't I just write something about this movie?

Last night, news broke that a whole slew of actors have joined the cast of Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the acclaimed director's forthcoming chronicle of 1969 Los Angeles. Damian Lewis, Dakota Fanning, and Emile Hirsch were among the many performers who joined the project, in addition to previously cast superstars like Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie. I wrote up an article this morning, breaking down the news and discussing just how epic this film could potentially be. Hours later, news broke that another iconic actor has signed on for a role in the project. And while it might ultimately be a small role, this is a huge addition to the Tarantino-verse.

Variety broke the news that Al Pacino, the legendary star of The Godfather and Scarface, has joined the incredible cast of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Pacino will play Marvin Shwarz, the agent of DiCaprio's character, an aging former Western star. The legendary actor will next appear in Martin Scorsese's The Irishman, which means that this'll be a very busy year for Pacino.

At this point, the casting announcements for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood are getting downright overwhelming. As I noted this morning, there are so many actors in this movie that it's difficult to imagine how all the pieces will fit together. But this is Tarantino we're talking about, after all. This is a director who made his name by working with massive ensembles, and it seems like this period epic will be his biggest cast yet. Pacino is a stellar addition to the cast, and I'm particularly excited that this is his first collaboration with Tarantino. Every actor elevates their game when they work with the director, so I can't wait to what Pacino delivers. And plus, Pacino and DiCaprio working today? That's even more exciting.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will open on August 9, 2019.
