Christopher Plummer is J. Paul Getty in new trailer for Ridley Scott's revamped 'All the Money in the World'

After news broke earlier this month that Oscar winner Kevin Spacey had been accused of sexual assault and harassment by several men, director Ridley Scott's awards contender All the Money in the World was faced with a daunting challenge. Instead of delaying the film or attempting to cover up Spacey's supporting role, Scott took the unprecedented step of replacing the actor completely, re-casting the role of J. Paul Getty and assembling his star-studded cast for emergency reshoots. Christopher Plummer was quickly chosen to play Getty, and Scott immediately began planning for the shoot, hoping to keep the film's December 22 release date. Earlier today, Scott broke his silence on the matter, and I came away with only one conclusion- the 80 year old director is an absolute madman in the best way possible. When asked in an interview with Entertainment Weekly if he ever thought about moving the film to 2018, Scott immediately answered "No." Scott later elaborated, "Because I know I can deliver....I move like lightning. I'm already two scenes ahead." When pressed with questions about the tight timeline for reshoots, Scott emphasized over and over that the film is going to be done in time, and Variety later revealed that the kidnapping thriller will screen for Golden Globe voters before the deadline.

It's a remarkable achievement by Scott, and the fact that he has made it look effortless is truly impressive. After the interview, Sony released the second full trailer for the film, revealing the newly cast Plummer. Watch it below!

This trailer is definitely showcasing a radically different vibe than what we saw from the first teaser, but I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way. However, I think it does reinforce the claim by Variety's Kristopher Tapley that this movie is looking like more of a commercial play than an awards contender. This is a terrifically-cut trailer, one that indicates more of an action thriller instead of a traditional drama. And hey, that's fine by me. It looks like Michelle Williams is doing genuinely incredible work here, and I was surprised to find that I really liked what Mark Wahlberg was doing in this trailer too. Many have already noted the difference between Plummer's take on J. Paul Getty and Spacey's performance based on the limited footage we've seen, and it is certainly noticeable. But I like the fact that Plummer feels less alien, tapping into a kind of old, lazy cruelty that seems to be really effective. The simple fact of the matter is that All the Money in the World looks wildly entertaining, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing it later this month. I'm glad Scott managed to pull off a minor miracle.

All the Money in the World will debut on December 22.
