Third and final trailer premieres for Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2'

This is a big year for Marvel Studios. No, it isn't a "make or break" year like it is for DC and Warner Bros. But nonetheless, the studio will release three films in 2017, which they've never done in their 9 years as a Hollywood power player. These three critical movies will lead up to Avengers: Infinity War, a film that will likely emerge as the biggest in Marvel's history. In July, Spider-Man: Homecoming will see the solo return of the web-slinger to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after he made a brief appearance in Captain America: Civil War. In addition, Thor will find his way back into theaters in November with Ragnarok, his third solo adventure. This time, the Norse god will team up with Doctor Strange and Hulk for an apocalyptic saga from Hunt for the Wilderpeople director Taika Waititi, a simple fact that has piqued the interest of cinephiles all over the globe. But before Thor and Spider-Man return to the big screen, the Guardians of the Galaxy will invade multiplexes once more. Marvel kicked off the marketing campaign for this one several months ago, but yesterday on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Chris Pratt revealed the third and presumably final trailer for the film. Check it out below!

There are plenty of reasons to be excited for Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2. The trailers have emphasized literally every single thing that fans loved about the original- great characters, awesome soundtrack, amazing visuals, etc. Once again, this is an incredibly well cut trailer that basically screams to the audience "Hey, remember that movie you all loved from a few years ago? The sequel is here!" However, therein lies my problem. For the first two trailers, I chalked it up as Marvel simply setting up the premise with teasers. But with this third and final trailer, I must say, I did expect to get a bit more of an idea of what the story will be for this hotly anticipated film. I can't decide whether it's a good or bad thing that I have no idea what this movie will be about, and I probably won't make that decision until its release. That being said, this sure does look fun. I love the introduction of Kurt Russell's Ego at the very end, and some of the visual effects on display are truly breathtaking. And with those reports from a few weeks back that Vol. 2 tested higher than any other movie in Marvel history, I would say there's plenty of reason to be optimistic.

From director James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will debut on May 5, 2017.
