'Fast and Furious 9' and '10' to complete saga in 2019 and 2021

One of the funniest movie moments to happen in 2015 occurred in the immediate aftermath of Furious 7, the $1.5 billion blockbuster that served as a perfect send-off for the series' late star, Paul Walker, and as one of the biggest movies of the year. After the conclusion of the seventh installment in the franchise, many seemed to think that the Fast and Furious saga had reached the end of the road. Almost all of my friends seemed insistent that there would be no Fast 8- but the industry knew better. The series would have to carry on without Walker, but it would indeed carry on. You can't just leave a series that still has room to operate after the latest chapter became the sixth biggest film of all time. A couple months passed, but the inevitable came eventually- Vin Diesel confirmed the production of Fast 8, with Straight Outta Compton filmmaker F. Gary Gray at the helm. The series will move the action to New York for the latest installment, which will hit theaters on April 14, 2017. But how much is left in the gas tank for this supercharged series? Well, apparently enough for two more movies, as Universal and Diesel confirmed that Fast and Furious 9 and 10 will be on their way very soon, completing one of the biggest sagas in Hollywood history.

Two years after the debut of Fast 8, Universal will release Fast and Furious 9 on April 19, 2019. And two years after that, the studio will send Fast and Furious 10 to theaters on April 2, 2021, completing a 10-film series that will have spanned two decades. As of now, I guess I'm excited. The Fast and Furious franchise has stepped up over the last few years, giving us some classic action setpieces and some truly terrific action scenes. Furious 7 continued the momentum with the most ludicrous chapter yet, and I think that moving the action to New York is brilliant. How much story is there left to tell? That's a topic for another day. But I'm hopeful that Kurt Russell returns and that we continue to up the ridiculous factor for this series. That's really the only way to go. 7 hit the emotional high point- now it's time to take the action to new heights. Fast 8 stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris and Tyrese Gibson and will be unleashed on April 14, 2017.
