Colin Farrell and Jenn Murray join 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'

Beyond the DC universe, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is one of Warner Bros.' biggest plays for the next few years. The spin-off series from the successful Harry Potter franchise, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will take place 70 years before the adventures of the Boy Who Lived, and follow the story of magician and writer Newt Scamander. Set in New York, the plot of Fantastic Beasts is a bit of an enigma right now, but with director David Yates returning, as well as a cast led by Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller, Alison Sudol, and Dan Fogler, there's a lot to be excited about with this film. And with Warner Bros. setting Fantastic Beasts up to be a trilogy series, there are still some major casting pieces left to fill for the film. The villain role will either be filled by Josh Gad or Michael Cera (if reports are to be believed), but two more roles were cast recently and it has only increased excitement for the film.

Yesterday, The Hollywood Reporter exclusively revealed that Irish actor Colin Farrell has joined Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and will play Graves, a magician friend of Scamander's in New York. Shortly after that news broke, The Wrap reported that Jenn Murray has joined the film in a "key role." Although Murray is a relative unknown at this point, her star is definitely rising, with roles in critically beloved films like Testament of Youth and Brooklyn, as well as the TV show Truckers. I'm not overly familiar with Murray at this point, but I'm interested to see her performances in Brooklyn and Testament of Youth. As for Farrell, I like him as an actor, but he does seem to struggle in big blockbusters. Total Recall, S.W.A.T. and Winter's Tale were all big budget failures, and yet, his roles in films like In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths and recently, the second season of HBO's True Detective, have garnered him much critical success. I'm interested to see where his role goes and Farrell should provide some experience to the very young cast. Fantastic Beasts should fill a few more roles before it goes into production, and I know that we'll be hearing a lot more about this one. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits theaters on November 18, 2016.
