Can this cast get any better?
Captain America: Civil War is one of the most anticipated films of 2016, featuring the long awaited showdown between Captain America and Iron Man that has been teased throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even though it's technically the third film in the Captain America franchise, I have a feeling that this will play out a lot like an Avengers movie. In addition to Captain America franchise staples like Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Crossbones (Frank Grillo) and Falcon (Anthony Mackie), many characters from the Avengers series will be joining in as well- Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Black Widow (Scarlett Johannson), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), War Machine (Don Cheadle) and of course, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) will all be making appearances in Civil War.
But that's not all. Marvel will also be introducing plenty of new characters in this film. Daniel Bruhl will be playing Baron Zemo, a villainous figure rumored to be playing a larger role in Doctor Strange. Chadwick Boseman is suiting up as Black Panther for the first time before he heads off to a solo outing in 2018. And finally, the web-slinger himself- Spider-Man- will be joining the Avengers for the first time to face off with Cap and Iron Man in Civil War. All of this is making Civil War one of the most hotly anticipated films in recent history and with another recent casting announcement, the fanboy community might just have one more reason to look forward to this film.
Martin Freeman, the celebrated and beloved actor from The Hobbit franchise and Sherlock, is now set to star in an unspecified role in Captain America: Civil War. Many have speculated that he'll likely play a government agent, but to be honest, I don't even care. Freeman is a great character actor and he's played strong supporting roles in some of my favorite recent films and TV shows (The World's End, Fargo). He'll do a great job in Civil War and I'm very excited to see this cast continue to grow and expand. The stage is set perfectly for May 6, 2016, the day that Civil War will finally debut in American cinemas.
