A lot of fanboys across the country (including myself) were terribly saddened when Edgar Wright decided to leave Marvel's Ant-Man. Wright had developed the superhero film for years and his vision just ended up differing with Marvel's. Wright left, Marvel signed on Peyton Reed to direct the film and it's all behind us now. Both parties can work on their own separate projects. And it looks like Wright finally has another film lined up. Deadline reported earlier today that Wright will direct Baby Driver next for Working Title Films. The industry website describes the film as a "collision of crime, action, music and sound." That really doesn't give us much info about the plot, but if you head over to Screen Rant, you'll find that they have a link to an earlier article they wrote which describes the film as a "wild spin on the action and crime genre which will be set in the US." Still not much to go off of, but it's better than nothing.
Edgar Wright is definitely one of my favorite working directors in Hollywood. He's crafted some of the smartest, most visually stimulating and energetic comedies of the last ten years and I'm down for anything that he does. And I have to say- I'm actually glad that he left Ant-Man to go back and do a movie more like his Cornetto Trilogy (the trilogy comprised of Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World's End). He seems to fit in well with Working Title (he did the Cornetto Trilogy with them) and Baby Driver sounds like a lot of fun. There's no word on the cast or the production start date, but I'm assuming that Baby Driver will hit theaters in 2016 or 2017.
