In big superhero casting news, Golden Globe Winning actor Michael Douglas (Last Vegas, Behind The Candelabra) has joined director Edgar Wright's Ant-Man. Douglas will play Hank Pym, the scientist who invents the Ant-Man technology. Marvel President Kevin Feige had this to say about getting Douglas to play the part:
"With Hank Pym's rich history in the Marvel universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves. We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn't be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life."
Also, Marvel has now confirmed that Paul Rudd will be playing Scott Lang, the character who will become Ant-Man. In addition to all of this news, reports are circling around that Michael Pena (American Hustle, End of Watch) has joined the cast in an unknown role. Out of all of the upcoming Marvel films, Ant-Man is one that is incredibly interesting to me. Edgar Wright (The World's End) is directing, which is an automatic positive and Joe Cornish is writing the script. Ant-Man seems like it will be something interesting, so I'm excited for it. I like the casting of Douglas and I hope that Rudd can do some good work as well. Ant-Man is currently set for release on July 31, 2015.
