Welcome to The Movie Guru's 2014 live blog of the Golden Globes. The first awards show of the season will be underway in the next few minutes. I'll be updating everything live until 11PM with in-depth updates for the movie categories throughout the night. The show's about to start. Let's begin!

-Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are killing it so far. Jokes are coming fast and furiously. Loving it so far.
-Fey and Poehler had a great opening monologue. Looks like the awards are starting.
-Hanks and Bullock are announcing the first award for Best Supporting Actress.

And the Golden Globe goes to........ Jennifer Lawrence!!!!
This clears up the best supporting actress race. Jennifer Lawrence is now the clear favorite for the Oscar. I wasn't too surprised by the win, but it still makes the race much more clear. Lawrence's speech was very entertaining and a little weird considering that she won last year for Silver Linings Playbook.
-They just announced the Globe for best supporting actress in a miniseries or TV movie. Jacqueline Bisset won for Dancing on the Edge. Speech was crazy long.
-Naomi Watts and Mark Ruffalo are up now. Category is TV related.
-Best miniseries or TV movie is the category now. Behind the Candelabra should win.
-And it does! Another correct pick for The Movie Guru!
-Now we're going to best actress in a TV movie or miniseries. I'll go with Mirren.
-And I'm wrong! Elizabeth Moss wins for Top of the Lake. Is it just me or was it a really good year for TV movies?
-Damon's introducing Captain Phillips. Figures since he was in The Bourne movies.
-Fey and Poehler are pick on the stage. Don't really get what they're doing.
-The President of the HFPA is speaking. Seems like a guy with a sense of humor. I like the speech so far. Jonah Hill and Margot Robbie are presenting now.
-And they just screwed up the teleprompter. Wow. Wait. I think that this was improvised. It was.
-Aaron Eckhart and Paula Patton are up no. What is Patton wearing?
-Award is for Best Actor in a TV series- Drama.
-And, to nobody's surprise, Bryan Cranston wins for Breaking Bad. Still, much deserved from what I here. Cranston is getting a standing ovation from some members of the audience.
-Wow. We're jumping straight to Best Drama TV series. I'm predicting Downton Abbey.
-Breaking Bad takes it. Should have known. Good for the show though.
-Now, we have Steve Coogan and Philomena Lee on stage. This is pretty cool.
-Philomena's a great film if you haven't seen it yet. Check it out. Kate Beckingsale, Diddy and Usher are now on stage.
-Best Original Score is the category being announced now. I've got Gravity here, but don't be surprised by the 12 Years A Slave upset.
-And it's Alex Ebert from All is Lost. First upset of the night. Shocker.
-Now we're going to Best Original Song. I've got "Let it Go" here.
-Hoping for the "Please Mr. Kennedy" upset.

A bit of a shocker here. I expected Price or Zimmer to take it, and All is Lost wasn't even on my radar. Interesting win. That makes the Oscar race a bit closer. I think that Ebert could take it now for All is Lost, but again, there's a different set of voters.

For months I've heard nothing but "Let it Go". But it seems like "Ordinary Love" has the momentum now. I'm still hoping that "Please Mr. Kennedy" can take the Oscar.

-Olivia Wilde is introducing Her. Still need to see this film. Can't wait for it.
-Robert Downey Jr. is now presenting an award. Can't wait to here what he has to stay.
-Looks like they're announcing Best Actress in a Motion Picture comedy. I've got Amy Adams. Streep could surprise. Here we go.
-American Hustle takes its second award of the night as Amy Adams wins for Best Actress!

Adams was the heart of that film. Glad to see her win. Sadly, this has no impact on the Oscar race. The best actress race is down to Bullock and Blanchett, and Blanchett is a heavy favorite. Still, I was very happy to see Adams win.
-We go to commercial now as the Globes continue.
-Fey and Poehler are doing something now and I don't really think that it is that funny. Everyone seems drunk. Now we're going to the nominees for Best Actress in a TV series-Drama. I guess I'll go with Robin Wright.
-And it's Robin Wright for House of Cards! I really have no idea if she was the favorite or not.
-Jim Carrey's introducing something. And he's making Shia Labeouf jokes.
-And he's introducing American Hustle.
-Finally something good. Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture. Let's go with the upset Bruhl!
-Leto with the win here. No surprise here. Leto's on a one way street to the Oscars.

Leto is going to win the Oscar. These are just the appetizers. I was hoping for an upset by Cooper or Rush, but Leto was going to win this no matter what.
-Emma Thompson seems drunk. Why is everyone drunk? It just seems weird but it's pretty funny. She's doing Best Screenplay. I've got Russell here.
-Spike Jonze wins for Her! Once again, really need to see this movie. Some people are going to be really happy.
-Jonze is getting played off. It seems like he just started.
-I'm betting that Laura Dern introduces Nebraska. And I'm right.

-Best Animated Feature is up next. Frozen with the easy win here.
-And it's Frozen! That is absolutely no surprise. Great film.
-Colin Farrell is introducing Inside Llewyn Davis. Highly recommended. Go see it if you haven't.
-Next award is TV related. Best Actress in a TV Comedy.
-Amy Poehler finally wins for Parks and Recreation and she makes out with Bono. That was pretty funny.

The Great Beauty has now emerged as the Oscar favorite. On my last Oscar update, I said that it was down to The Great Beauty and The Hunt, but now I think that it is clearly tipped in one's favor. The Great Beauty is the Oscar leader at this point.
BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM
The Croods
Despicable Me 2
Frozen
There was never a doubt in my mind that Frozen would win and it did. Frozen is quite spectacular and I think that it's the obvious choice in a weak year for animated movies.
-Diane Keaton is accepting the Cecil B. Demille award for Woody Allen.
-Listening to Liam Neeson introduce Gravity was pretty awesome. Great movie.
-Ben Affleck comes out to introduce the nominees for best director. This is a tough category. I'm going with Cuaron.
-And the Golden Globe goes to....Alfonso Cuaron, Gravity
-Good win there. All five of those guys were deserving.
-And Cuaron's talking about herpes. What a coincidence I look up the movie Her in Google earlier and I get results for herpes as well.
-Next up is TV series comedy. Let's go Big Bang Theory!
-And it's Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I should have known judging by that Samberg win earlier. No love for The Big Bang Theory.

Another tick in the win column for The Movie Guru. I predicted Cuaron for the win earlier today and he takes home the trophy tonight. This gives us a better idea of who might win come Oscar night. I still think that McQueen and Russell have a shot if their films get more momentum, but I think that Cuaron's the favorite at this point.
-Jennifer Lawrence is announcing the nominees for Best Actor- Comedy or Musical. I've got Dern here. Let's see.
-DiCaprio takes it! I should have known. Great speech so far by DiCaprio.
BEST ACTOR IN MOTION PICTURE- COMEDY OR MUSICAL

DiCaprio wins in this category, but it'll be a surprise if he's actually nominated at the Oscars. The HFPA seems more accepting of the raunchy stuff so I think that DiCaprio got his one award here. I really did love his speech though. It seemed to be the most clear and concise of the night.
-Hemsworth is up there with Niki Lauda. One of the best movies of the year. This is pretty cool.
-Finally, a Best Picture award. Best Motion Picture- Comedy or Musical. I've got American Hustle with Her playing spoiler.
-And the winner is American Hustle. Awesome. Let's hope that Rush can pull off the upset in the drama category.

No surprise here. American Hustle takes it and caps off its night with 3 Golden Globes. Strong night for Hustle. The Hustle movement is strong and barring a shocking snub on Thursday, I'm betting on American Hustle for the Oscar win.
-DiCaprio announces the nominees for Best Actress.
-And it's Cate Blanchett for Blue Jasmine! No surprise there.
-Now, it's Jessica Chastain for Best Actor in a Motion Picture- Drama. This is a tough category. Think Ejiofor will pull it out.
-And I'm wrong again. Matthew McConaughey wins it for Dallas Buyers Club. This is the biggest win of the night.
-This changes the momentum for the Best Actor race completely. McConaughey is a ton of fun to watch.

This one really shakes up the Oscar race. I'm not going to write about Blanchett because I think we all expected it. But the win for McConaughey has an impact on the Oscar race. Ejiofor takes a step down in the race and McConaughey becomes the favorite at this point. This has a major impact. Let's see what happens at the SAG's next week.
-Johnny Depp introduces the Best Picture-Drama.
-And it's.....12 Years A Slave. So the movie is not going to get shut out.

12 Years A Slave saves itself with a last minute win. The movie is still in this race now. 12 Years A Slave still maintains some momentum at this point, but I would say that McConaughey is now the leader in the actor race. Let's see what happens with the Oscar nominations on Thursday.

12 Years A Slave saves itself with a last minute win. The movie is still in this race now. 12 Years A Slave still maintains some momentum at this point, but I would say that McConaughey is now the leader in the actor race. Let's see what happens with the Oscar nominations on Thursday.
