Kung Fu Panda 2 review

Kung Fu Panda 2 is the sequel to 2008's Kung Fu Panda, which in my opinion was one of the greatest animated movies ever. The sequel met my expectations. Kung Fu Panda 2 has humor and action mixed together well again like they did in the first one. The movie starts with Po (Jack Black) having nightmares about who he is and where he came from. He asks his dad, Mr. Ping (James Hong), to tell him where he came from. Mr.Ping tells Po that he was adopted (shocker!), and that he found him in a box of radishes. Then Po is called to the temple by Shifu (Dustin Hoffman). Shifu tells Po that some of Kung Fu's greatest masters are being killed. Shifu thinks that it is Lord Shen, an evil peacock who has mastered the use of gun powder. Po, Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Monkey (Jackie Chan), Mantis (Seth Rogen), Viper (Lucy Liu), and Crane (David Cross) aka The Furious Five set off to find and stop Lord Shen.

Kung Fu Panda 2 is not as funny as the first movie, but still is pretty funny. I think that the film would have been funnier if Shifu was in it more. The film is darker and more serious. Lord Shen (Gary Oldman) is a better villain because of his past but not a better character than Tai Lung, the villain in the first movie. Soothsayer (Michelle Yeoh) is a good new character that adds to the story. Master Croc (Jean Claude Van-Damme) and Master Ox are pointless additions. Once again Kung Fu Panda 2 does a good job mixing humor and action, but the humor suffers a bit from the dark tone.

THE FINAL GRADE:  B-                                           (6.8/10)
